How is it already July? Junkies don't have an off-season and G-d knows Summer movies, Con season and one month closer to THE LAST JEDI! It is getting harder and harder to limit the AFJ HIT LIST to just q0 items which means that it is a great time to be a Junkie but a tough time on the old wallet. And the old credit rating. And forgetting about the pre-orders you placed after having one too many, etc!

10. FUNKO POP! VINYLS WALGREENS EXCLUSIVE MACE WINDU ($20)

The baddest mother*****r in the Galaxy is here in FUNKO form as a WALGREEN's Exclusive in the company's wildly successful POP! Vinyls line. Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu has always been a fan favorite and now you can own the purple lightsaber wielding Jedi for just $10 if you find him at retail.

9. MCFARLANE COLOR TOPS THE WALKING DEAD NEGAN WAL*MART EXCLUSIVE ($40)

Not a 100% certain I got the picture right on this one. I know that the WAL*MART Exclusive has the sticker logo of the retail giant on the front of this awesome looking figure. The Color Tops line from Arizona based MCFARLANE Toys has really impressed me thus far with high end figures at a cost efficient price. Top notch sculpts, likenesses and just enough articulation to feel like you are getting any of this line for a steal if you are lucky enough to find it at retail.

8. HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES 6-INCH CHIRRUT IMWE & BAZE MALBUS ($60)

The best on-screen couple of 2016 for Junkies was the bromance between ROGUE ONE's Chirrut Imwe & Baze Malbus. Now, six months after STAR WARS 3.5 aka ROGUE ONE hit theaters, the doomed rebel pair finally get their BLACK SERIES due with these two awesome figures. The breakout characters from the first standalone STAR WARS film habve been seeing some major action on the secondary market for BLACK SERIES completists looking to collect every 6-inch figure from a Galaxy Far, Far Away...

7. HOT TOYS ROGUE ONE DEATH TROOPER SPECIALIST (DELUXE VERSION) 1/6 SCALE ($260)

The DEATH TROOPERS of Scarif were one of my favorite parts of ROGUE ONE so leave it to HOT TOYS to produce the greatest iteration of Director Krennic's minions ever. The bells and whistles that you get from a HOT TOYS item are remarkable and the Hong Kong toy makers continue to prove why they are at the top of their game right now.

6. HASBRO MARVEL LEGENDS BAF MANTIS ($60)

Actress Pom Klementieff was a big scene-stealer in MARVEL's feel good sequel, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 as Ego's naive and reluctant sidekick MANTIS. Now with the second wave of LEGENDS from GOTG VOL. 2 being released, the new Build-A-Figure (BAF) of MANTIS has become a hot commodity among Junkies selling for up to $70 to $80 on eBay and Facebook groups.

5. HASBRO TARGET EXCLUSIVE MARVEL LEGENDS 12-INCH SPIDER-MAN ($80) 

TARGET has thrown their hat into the 12-inch MARVEL LEGENDS ring again with a new Black Suit Symbiote SPIDER-MAN figure. Although the other 12-inch LEGENDS have come way down in price, Junkies are known to pay a little extra for anything Spidey Symbiote or Venom related. Also with SONY/MARVEL's new VENOM movie starting to film with Tom Hardy in the lead this Fall, I see this piece becoming white hot and very hard to find at the retailer giant with the giant bullseye logo.

4. FUNKO POP! VINYLS GLOW IN THE DARK CHASE FRODO BAGGINS ($40) 

It is hard to believe how long it has been since the Peter Jackson's original LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy hit theaters. I remember sitting alone in the NYC DISNEY screening room watching a 20-minute preview of the FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING with a special message from Peter Jackson. To say it was a game-changing film that NEW LINE CINEMA bet the farm on and won is an understatement. Now, devoted Tolkien-ites can pick up this Chase POP! of Frodo Baggins with Glow in the Dark action. Very cool addition to FUNKO's flagship line if you can find it that is...

3. NECA 1/4 SCALE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES LEONARDO ($145)

It is fair to say that Turtle-love is bigger than ever because of NECA's brilliant 1/4 scale figures of the 90's movie series. These pieces are so impressive that it makes those two films look like Academy Award nominees! From the sculpting to the paint apps to NECA's trademark window box packaging, the de facto leader of the underground city dwellers that is Leonardo looks better than ever.

2. TOYS R US EXCLUSIVE HASBRO MARVEL LEGENDS 2-PACK CYCLOPS & DARK PHOENIX ($70)

While I was always more of an AVENGERS guy than an X-MEN acolyte, their is no denying the power couple that is Cyclops & Jean Grey aka Dark Phoenix. Throw in the fact that a lot of Junkies think the X-MEN have been underrepresented in the MARVEL LEGENDS line and the TRU Exclusive tag and the result is the hottest two-pack of the year. With the DARK PHOENIX film slated to start shooting this month, Scott & Jean are in high demand among Junkies that also happen to be a part of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. (You would be surprised how many AFJ members have the fictional Westchester, NY school listed as their education, lol.)  Junkies have been waiting to get their mitts on this great looking two-pack asap, myself included!

1. DIAMOND SELECT GHOSTBUSTERS TERROR DOG ($35)

The final piece to the puzzle that is DST's GHOSTBUSTERS rooftop diorama that I have been working on for a year shall finally be finished once I acquire this piece! The Terror Dog's from the original '84 film are easily the most wished for figures that GB fans have been waiting for and you know that die hard Junkies are going to need at least two of these for their collection. I love DST's dedication to maintaining the integrity of the original film series' legacy with film accurate figures at a crazy affordable price and even the option to buy the figures without the diorama pieces for an even lower price point. Now that's just smart business.

AFJ'S TOP 10 CAPTAIN AMERICA FIGURES W/ BONUS PICKS

It is hard to belived that we are already knee deep into the Summer of 2017 with July 4th somehow already here. I think it is safe to say that Captain America is a character that has transcended as a symbol for the country while evolving with the changing shape of the world. Plus Steve Rogers is the ROCKY of the MARVEL Universe, he was the ultimate underdog and was the country's first superhero as outlined in his classic origin. So here are some of AFJ'S favorite Captain America figures to pick up aonline after you are bursting from one too many cheeseburgers at your holiday BBQ.

10. WALMART EXCLUSIVE THE AVENGERS CAPTAIN AMERICA ($40)

It is hard to believe that we are only 5 years removed from the first AVENGERS film. I remember that summer well because I was in physical rehab every day and did a ton of driving. Not once did I find one of these WAL*MART Exclusives on the pegs! Thankfully eBay made did not make it difficult to acquire.

9. MARVEL SELECT ZOMBIE COLONEL AMERICA ($60)

Before THE WALKING DEAD was a cultural phenomenon and the worldwide zombie obsession hit a fever pitch, MARVEL SELECT had the foresight to release a wave of their classic figures zombified. The ZOMBIE COLONEL AMERICA has always been my favorite!

8. MARVEL LEGENDS SECRET WARS CAPTAIN AMERICA ($10)

Although you can land this MARVEL LEGENDS figure MIB for under $10, I thought it was one of the best Cap figures in years. I really dig the SECRET WARS suit and I loved that HASBRO tried something new with the shield-whizzing action-a daring and fun addition I wish they would do more of.

7. S.H. FIGUARTS CIVIL WAR CAPTAIN AMERICA ($69.99)

S.H. FIGUARTS is on a major roll right now and Junkies are taking notice in a big way. The FIGUARTS line is the 6-inch figure on steroids with bells & whistles that satisfy collectors despite the relatively small stature of the pieces for the price. Once you inbox it, you'll know where that extra money you paid. went

6. NECA 1/4 SCALE MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS CAPTAIN AMERICA ($120)

I specifically remember this awesome NECA 1/4 scale figure because it was my first time seeing one of my favorite toy companies throwing their hat into the MCU. I really love how MARVEL has evolved Cap's suit since his debut in THE FIRST AVENGER all the way up to CIVIL WAR. But their was something about THE AVENGERS suit that was a mix of old school and new with Steve clinging to a past long gone while not understanding the future he is in.

5. MEZCO ONE:12 COLLECTIVE COMMANDER ROGERS SDCC '16 PX EXCLUSIVE ($70) 

MEZCO continues to do no wrong with their highly acclaimed ONE:12 COLLECTIVE line so it is no wonder Junkies love this piece. This 2016 SDCC Exclusive was a majorly hot commodity over the past year but has come down in price as of late making this Con Exclusive from last year the perfect patriotic start to your ONE:12 collection.

4.MARVEL SELECT CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER ($25)

I gush about MARVEL SELECT because you simply cannot get more for your money with most new figures being a scant $24.99. Two of DST's new 2017 figures made our TOY FAIR TOP 10 this year alone and the informed Junkie knows that this is a line of figures that continues to get better with age. This was also the first piece I bought that was from the first Cap solo flick and loved how Director Joe Johnston (THE ROCKETEER) captured the utilitarian but functional WWII era suit.

3. MEZCO ONE:12 COLLECTIVE CAPTAIN AMERICA ($75) 

Yes, it's MEZCO again with another amazing iteration of the kid from Brooklyn that made good. This is a near perfect Captain America figure with a slew of accessories, unbelievable costumes and a displaying quality like no other current figure line in this price range.

2. HOT TOYS CIVIL WAR CAPTAIN AMERICA ($300)

It is hard to avoid HOT TOYS when making TOP 10 lists but also do not want Junkies to break the bank on their monthly toy budget. Still, look at this brilliant work of art from Howard Chan's little company that could. It is no wonder that HOT TOYS has become the ROLEX of action figures.

1. NECA 1/4 SCALE CIVIL WAR CAPTAIN AMERICA ($105) 

I do not know the street date on this upcoming 1/4 scale figure from NECA but it blew me away at Toy Fair! This was the best shit that I could get and although it is not the final product, I was so psyched that NECA was making a 1/4 scale Cap that would not break the bank and be the best and most cost-effective future Cap figure purchase. It is just that nice a figure in person gang so hopefully we will see it before the end of the year at this bargain price.

MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS CAPTAIN AMERICA ($45)

You never forget your first! This was my first non-MEGO Cap figure in the 80's and I still love it as much today as I did back then. We were even treated to jumbo sized versions from GENTLE GIANT but while the original, smaller figure seen here is not that much scratch for a 30-plus year old figure, if it has a high AFA grade, expect to pay at least three bills.

MARVEL GALLERY STATUE CAPTAIN AMERICA SAM WILSON ($39.99)

I again unknowingly put a Jean St. Jean sculpted piece on one of my lists! That is just how prolific JSJ is from project to project--he reinvents his style in accordance to the character's look and feel. One thing is for sure, the results are consistently remarkable. Plus I love DST's still relatively new MARVEL GALLERY line and I've been a Sam Wilson/Falcon fan since reading my first MARVEL TEAM-UP issue.

HOT TOYS THE AVENGERS CAPTAIN AMERICA ($350) 

This is the Ferrari of Cap figures from the first AVENGERS flick. Seeing the evolution and details of the suit through the eyes of HOT TOYS has been a game changing and breathtaking adventure.

MARVEL SELECT BUCKY BARNES CAPTAIN AMERICA ($20)

Say what you will about Bucky Barnes taking up the mantle of Captain America but their were a lot of Junkies that really dug the sleek almost armor-like suit with the hi-res shine and pistol. Their is also an unmasked variant of this piece, also very affordable!

HOT TOYS CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (STEALTH STRIKE SUIT $300)

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is arguably one of the best action movie sequels ever. Not just comic book movies; all movies. The complex narrative, clever casting and resurrection of a character that MARVEL used to say, "Any character can come back to life. Except Bucky Barnes." That to me is why seeing the WINTER SOLDIER jump from the comics to the big screen in near record time for a MARVEL character. But when Cap's suit changed in the books, the Russo Brothers made the daring choice to implement into the sequel and it was just plain awesome onscreen. This is the ultimate Cap figure for Junkies that believe TWS to be THE GODFATHER PART II of action sequels!

MARVEL SELECT CIVIL WAR CAPTAIN AMERICA ($25) 

Yup, another MARVEL SELECT choice, this time from CIVIL WAR. I loved the streamlined look of the CIVIL WAR suit and DST captured the old & new school styling for the most versatile Cap suit yet. Plus the figure comes with a dope AVENGERS logo bar piece and the company's signature book-spine packaging for easy reference.

The God of Thunder finally returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Thor: Ragnarok. Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Larry Lieber breathed comic book life into this mythological character back in 1962. Since then, there have been plenty of t-shirts, posters, and toys for this character. Thor: Ragnarok - Thor - Marvel Legends

The most recent addition to the Marvel Legends is this likeness of Thor from Thor: Ragnarok. A very cool looking figure and completely in line with the film's cool aesthetic. Easily obtainable, for now, this is our favorite Chris Hemsworth Thor for under $25.

Thor: Ragnarok - Hulk - Mezco Toyz - One:12

Arriving in 2018, Mezco's fantastic One:12 line will add the Hulk from Thor: Ragnarok. The image above was captured at the NYCC and has yet to go on pre-order at Mezco. Yes, we too feel the need for this Hulk. 

Thor: Ragnarok - Thor - Mezco Toyz - One:12

Again, we turn to Mezco for their One:12 line. This Thor has it all and we don't even care that Mjolnir is absent. This is the true warrior at his very best. The pre-order for Thor goes into effect on November 3rd.

Marvel Universe - Thor (3.75")

The Marvel Universe Thor (or as I call him the J. Michael Straczynski Thor) is our comic book rendition that we like. A perfect rendering of Olivier Coipel’s artwork from Straczynski's re-launch of the character from a few years ago.

Thor: Ragnarok - Sideshow Collectibles - Hot Toys
Roadworn Thor, by Hot Toys and released through Sideshow Collectibles is available now for pre-order (here). A great likeness of Hemsworth as the God of Thunder. We like this one because it is slightly different from the typical Thor figures and collectibles we tend to see.

Marvel Legends -Fin Fang Foam - BAF

The Marvel Legend series took a diversion and did an entire Hulk wave. In that wave was a build-a-figure of Fin Fang Foam. Standing at 15-inches tall he was a great figure to add to the collection. The added bonus was all the Hulk figures were actually worth getting.

Marvel Legends - Beta Ray Bill

Created by Walt Simonson, he is both friend and ally to Thor. Beta Ray Bill is an essential Thor figure for any collector. Need Beta Ray Bill? This one was from the MODOK wave of the Marvel Legends series. Hopefully a Mezco One:12 is not far off. 

Marvel Universe's Gigantic Battles Savage Frost Giant and Loki

The 12-inch Frost Giant is Thor’s second most perfect nemesis, in action figure form. The first comes with the Frost Giant in this set, Loki. This Wal-Mart exclusive is now a highly sought after set. Hasbro makes so few of these giant figures making each a collectors dream.

Thor: Ragnarok - Hela - Marvel Legends
Early on when this set was trickling into brick and mortar stores, Hela was tough to find. The AFJ Facebook is starting to report more and more sightings of her now, however, we still think she is worthy of our list. Why? The details on the head and face for one. The second reason is that we may finally have a decent MCU female villain! Check out AFJ's interview with Cate Blanchett HERE.

Marvel Legends - Thor - Series 3
This is an incredible likeness of the God of Thunder as if directly from the Avengers comic book. This figure was a huge seller when the first Thor film dropped. He is a perfect addition to the Gods that protect your desktop. Just keep him in mint condition.

AFJ’S TOP 30 NOVEMBER PRE-ORDERS!

It is officially my favorite time of year when the leaves are changing and crunching under your feet and you start to see your breath when it starts to get chilly. However, I am in the bizarro world of Los Angeles where every day is sunny, hot and my A/C bill is through the roof. It is a weird feeling to get into the whole Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas season vibe when the sun never stops shining. Plus I am in what they call "The Valley," and apparently it gets even hotter here than other areas. To be honest, I only moved here to enter the All-Valley Tournament starting in December to win a long-coveted Karate title I have been wanting. I am a huge fan of The CW's THE FLASH TV Series but it has taken me a while to warm up to Keiynan Lonsdale's Wally West/Kid Flash character. Although he has been in the lions share of the series episodes, I thought that he was being rushed into the STAR LABS life and as a speedster. But it has all worked out so far and I really dig this new sculpt by Chris Dahlberg despite Wally exiting Central City early in Season 4. Love him or hate him, Ezra Miller managed to steal a few scenes in the new JUSTICE LEAGUE feature film. While I am partial to The CW's Grant Gustin's interpretation of The Scarlet Speedster, I like the way the movie Flash looks in figure form much more than I did on the IMAX screen. NECA returns with its second set of BLADE RUNNER 2049 figures from the underrated film from a few months back. While the long-awaited sequel was released in a very tough post-summer, pre-holiday season market, BLADE RUNNER 2049 was still a hit with die-hard fans much like the original film that is coveted as one of the greatest Sci-Fi films of all time. CYBORG definitely had his moments in the JUSTICE LEAGUE film despite my feeling that he was a little "over CGI'd." S.H. FIGUARTS has been killing it in 2017 and this new entry to Tony Stark's Hall of Armor is no exception. From Bandai Tamashii comes this new Exclusive due in May of next year featuring the IRON MAN MARK IV suit. While it carries a hefty price tag, this early version of Tony's suit is as loaded as one of the playboy billionaires Bugati's. It includes an LED light-up feature on the front, top AND back of the figure. 14) MAFEX BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT RISES VERSION 3.0 ACTION FIGURE - PREVIEWS EXCLUSIVE ($64.99)

It is hard to believe that THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was in theaters just 5 years ago, ending the Christopher Nolan directed Bat-Verse. (Nolan has been a producer on the new DCU films but personally, I think it is just more of a vanity title) Anyway, my personal gripes aside, Nolan's trilogy remains one of the best of all time in the superhero canon. Now we are getting our third version of Gotham's reclusive savior (hence 3.0) with the figure standing 6.5" tall sporting an all-new sculpt. The articulation is off the charts and the figure comes with three facial expressions, his grapnel gun, a Batarang and a pair of rifles. I capital "L" love the MANGA REALIZATION figures from BANDAI! I have as many as I can afford and already pre-ordered this new WAR MACHINE because, in my opinion, Rhodey deserves far more respect in the MCU! Still, this is the Feudal Japan version of Col. Rhodes designed by Takeyuki Takeya and sculpted by Junichi Taniguchi and Takashi Yamaguchi. The re-envisioned version of WAR MACHINE for the era of the samurai includes two pairs of optional hands, a sword, a backpack & a stand. There is not much argument that 2017 was the year of Gal Gadot. The Israeli actress that was ready to give up on acting before being cast as the Amazonian Princess, gave us the first critically acclaimed DC movie since WARNER BROS. rebooted its cinematic universe. FIGUARTS has become one of my favorite lines that although not huge in stature, the under 6" figures pack an Amazon-sized wallop after you unbox it. It also includes a Grapnel Gun Grenade Launcher as well as a figure stand for maximum display possibilities. There is no doubting that HOT TOYS is the big kid on the block so leaving them off of our lists because of their lofty price tags would be a sin. Some Junkies have given up on buying 30 figures a month in favor of purchasing just one HOT TOYS figure--that is just how detailed and ahead of their time the company has become. The mystery of Rey continues in next months THE LAST JEDI as she begins her tutelage under Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. This is the "Jedi Training Rey" and it is specially built with a newly developed head sculpt, tailored outfit, a dope LED light-up lightsaber and even an interchangeable lightsaber blade that emulates the historic weapon in motion. 8) DIAMOND SELECT GHOSTBUSTERS 2 SELECT SERIES 7 ACTION FIGURE SET ($64.99)

DIAMOND SELECT continues to kill it with the GHOSTBUSTERS figures that we have been waiting on since 1984. The first series from the original film with the epic rooftop diorama was such a hit that DST has now moved on to the 1989 sequel giving us a first wave of new figures and sculpts including: Slime-Blower Winston Zeddemore, Grey Outfit Egon Spengler and the super exclusive, never before made Janosz Poha (scene-stealing character actor Peter MacNicol), museum curator and eventual minion of Vigo the Carpathian! The infamous STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL is indeed historic in George Lucas' canon of the world he created from scratch. Sure, it was a critically panned TV special that for some reason made Bea Arthur a part of the STAR WARS universe but if it had one awesome takeaway, it is that it gave us our first look at the world's most famous bounty hunter in the animated short. (TV sitcom THE GOLDBERGS devoted an entire episode to the first appearance of Boba Fett via a bootleg VHS copy that shady Johnny Atkins sells to Adam) I legit love this action figure version of the Fett and HOT TOYS has given the Mandalorian an amazingly accurate translation with enough bells, whistles & accessories that die-hard Fett fans will go bonkers over. NETFLIX's Season 1 of STRANGER THINGS produced one of the greatest monsters of the 21st Century with Junkies everywhere completely obsessed with the dreaded DEMOGORGON. This new 10-inch Deluxe Action Figure in his "kill pose" with its mouth open and teeth showing is due in April 2018 from McFarlane Toys. 2) MAFEX THE DARK KNIGHT THE JOKER COP VERSION ($94.99)

As I am sure you Junkies have noticed, there are a lot of MAFEX products on this month's list and we saved the best for last. Almost 10 years later, THE DARK KNIGHT is still considered by many to be the seminal comic book film of all time. Now, one of my favorite scenes from the film featuring the late Oscar winner Heath Ledger disguised as a GCPD officer at the funeral for the *spoiler* not dead Jim Gordon. The figure is a no pun intended, dead ringer for the late Ledger standing 6" tall with some serious posability. This showpiece also comes with three interchangeable heads including one with the Joker makeup on and two without the war paint. One of the heads includes the GCPD hat he is wearing during the big reveal moment in the funeral procession. He is equipped with a rifle, two extra arms and MAFEX made it a point to let us know that the prior iteration of their Joker can be interchanged with this newer version. 1) NECA GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH FLASHER GREMLIN LIFE-SIZE STUNT PUPPET PROP REPLICA ($239.99)

While the GREMLINS sequel was not the box office sensation the original was, the film still has a dedicated following so this new NECA piece due out in April of 2018 is a welcome addition. The highly detailed "Flasher Gremlin" is an authentic, full-size stunt puppet ready to scare any home intruders as well as your kids! The prop replica is made of hand-painted rubber and latex and stands close to a towering 30" tall with a fabric trench coat and removable sunglasses. UNIVERSAL MONSTERS - CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON 9’’ - MEZCO TOYZ

When we first saw it, we immediately fell in love with Mezco’s rendition of the Universal Monster. This and their Mummy are “must haves” for any fan of those classic films. This one also had an incredible window box for display, if you were shy about removing him. 

UNCLE GILBERT - THE MUNSTERS SELECT- DIAMOND SELECT TOYS
Sculpted with incredible detail and passion by Jean St. Jean, Uncle Gilbert is the quintessential campiness that was The Munsters. Which is why Uncle Gilbert makes our list. Plus he is the only Gill-Men that comes with a fedora.

The Living Dead Dolls have been around a long time. From time to time, Mezco creates one in the likeness of our favorite movie monsters. Not only is The Living Dead Doll Creature phenomenal, but check out that box! He stands over 10-inches tall and features 9 points of articulation, so calling him a “doll” might be a bit of an exaggeration. This Living Dead Doll is an awesome addition to any collection.

UNIVERSAL MONSTERS SILVER EDITION CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON - TRU EXCLUSIVE

Long ago, in the year 2000, Sideshow Toy’s released Silver Screen renditions of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Bride of Frankenstein. They were high-end action figures, for their day, and were masterfully crafted. The Silver Screen edition of the Creature makes our list for nostalgia sake. See, action figures of these classic monsters, to that point, hadn't been any better than this.

ABE SAPIEN - HELLBOY 18” 1/4 SCALE - MEZCO TOYZ - CONVENTION EXCLUSIVE

Now you knew old Abe was going to make this list. However, which one became problematic. Which Abe from Mezco Toyz would be our pick? For this one, we went with their 2009 Convention Exclusive. It’s just a beautiful figure and captures his essence of the character from Guillermo del Toro's sequel to Hellboy. We also like the “exclusive” collectible aspect of getting something so rare! 

CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON - SIDESHOW COLLECTIBLES

It’s fun to look back and see how far Sideshow Collectibles has come. In terms of both price and packaging. There is definitely a difference especially if you look back just 14 years at their Creature from the Black Lagoon. The quality is just as good then as it is now, however, the box, in the style of poster, is fantastic.

Say what you want about the JUSTICE LEAGUE feature film that has not exactly reached the heights that Junkies had hoped it would, our first peek at the drop dead gorgeous Amber Heard as Princess Mera of Atlantis was most definitely a nice distraction. Whether dry or soaking wet underwater, Mera is certainly the kind of gal that I would learn how to swim for--no, I legitimately do not know how to swim! MATTEL gives Mera their staple BARBIE line treatment wearing a body suit with scales and and intricately sculpted body armor, boots, and crown. Her body is also perfect for posing with full articulation to help out Arthur Curry protect one of the Mother Boxes. To be honest, I would have loved to have just watched her swim for two hours instead of sit through JUSTICE LEAGUE again but that's just one guys opinion. Although MARVEL's live-action TV series THE INHUMANS was universally panned by critics and Junkies alike, AFJ members will rack up the miles on their their cars to snag a MARVEL LEGENDS Exclusive from WALGREENS. Junkies may remember that back in 2014, Medusa was included in an SDCC Exclusive 4-pack but I was not much of a fan and really dig this new streamlined version from HASBRO available exclusively at WALGREENS. 27) MATTEL DC MULTIVERSE JUSTICE LEAGUE 6" AQUAMAN ACTION FIGURE ($20)

Jason Momoa definitely swam out of JUSTICE LEAGUE as Aquaman with the least amount of criticism from fans and now Junkies are grabbing up his new DC MULTIVERSE Variant action figure. I call it a Variant because he is not in the full suit that we became familiar with but instead the figure has Aquaman with his Atlantean tattoos. The 6-inch scale action figure of the telepathic Atlantean King comes with 19 points of articulation. Adding his signature Trident would have been cool but for $20, it is a pretty cool figure. We will have to wait until next year for the solo Aquaman movie to see how Momoa floats on his own carrying a tentpole film without the added support of the JUSTICE LEAGUE. Hate against the Prequels aside, I always loved Liam Neeson's portrayal of Qui-Gon Jinn as a Jedi Master. Although we finally received a BLACK SERIES version earlier this year, this new S.H. FIGUARTS version is a serious upgrade that Junkies are going to love. FIGUARTS has a ton of momentum right now and this figure is going for beau-coups bucks on the secondary market right now. Although my older brother Jason was the dinosaur nut in the family, I completely flipped when TRANSFORMERS released the DINOBOTS back in 1985. In all of my years of collecting, I have never seen a more fervent and passionate dedication to one specific MARVEL character like DEADPOOL. MEDICOM TOYS' MAFEX shingle is having a banner year with many new Junkies trying the company out for the first time after hearing such terrific things about them on the AFJ Facebook page. I totally understand that for a 5.9" figure, you may think it is a little pricey but trust me, these babies are awesome and have tremendous resale value if you decide to go that route. The new MAFEX Spidey comes with three interchangeable heads featuring one with normal eyes, one with squinty eyes and an unmasked head with a mask to hold. And the likeness of Tom Holland? It is definitely the best that I have seen in a long time for an under $100 figure. The MAFEX Spidey is also equipped with some interchangeable hands, a web strand and a display stand. 17) DIAMOND SELECT BACK TO THE FUTURE 2 FROZEN HOVER TIME MACHINE ELECTRONIC VEHICLE ($49.99)

BACK TO THE FUTURE is my favorite trilogy of all time and always has been so any time a new Delorean from BTTF is released, I become positively giddy with excitement. After last year's Part I Delorean with the frozen ice effect, I figured that DIAMOND SELECT was done making them and moving on. Thankfully, I was wrong as they decided to press on and make a PART II frozen time machine complete with adjustable hover wheels, the iconic "Mr. Fusion" fuel device and a thin layer of faux frost ice in a 1:15 scale. The vehicle measures about 14-inches long with fully opening gulf-wing doors as well as time travel lights and sounds. Say what you will about the JUSTICE LEAGUE film, I think that Snyder, Whedon and company nailed the PARADEMONS pretty well. They are kind of like the flying monkeys from THE WIZARD OF OZ but for the DC movie universe and man are there a lot of them. The DC MULTIVERSE action figure features 19 points of articulation, stands 6-inches and comes with an impressive set of wings and an Energy Rifle accessory. AMAZON strikes again with a new Exclusive BLACK SERIES figure from HASBRO and this time it is the ELITE PRAETORIAN GUARD WITH HEAVY BLADE. The Praetorian Guards are Supreme Leader Snoke's first line of defense and after first seeing them, I was immediately reminded of the similarities between them and Emperor Palpatine's Royal Guards from RETURN OF THE JEDI. This Exclusive from Bezos and company gives us the Elite Praetorian Guard along with a bonus "Heavy Blade" making it a must have for any STAR WARS fans that live, breathe & die everything STAR WARS having sold out several times online since being released online. 14) DST MARVEL SELECT NETFLIX DAREDEVIL ACTION FIGURE ($22.99)

This NETFLIX DAREDEVIL figure made my BEST OF TOY FAIR 2017 article and I am so happy that it has finally arrived. After the Ben Affleck debacle that was the 2003 film DAREDEVIL, I honestly thought that one of my Top 5 favorite MARVEL characters of all time in comic books was never going to have the live-action figure that it deserved. I did not foresee another studio taking on another live-action interpretation in either TV or film. I am so happy that I was wrong because NETFLIX's DAREDEVIL is not just one of the best superhero shows on TV, it is one of the best shows on TV period. Now, DIAMOND SELECT brings us this awesome new figure of the Daredevil of Hell's Kitchen to life and DST's quality continues to get better with each successive figure. It seems that with each new MARVEL SELECT figure release, they continually get better and better constantly improving their 3D likenesses, paint apps & diorama style backdrop pieces. This DD bears a stunning resemblance to actor Charlie Cox, comes with 16 pints of articulation and a pair of his signature billy clubs. As if that were not enough, Junkies are treated to the aforementioned sculpted diorama piece that depicts the elevator scene from Season 1 on NETFLIX. Throw in the DST's signature "spine packaging" for easy reference and I am definitely going to buy two of these; one to save and one to display. STRANGER THINGS is not just a TV show on NETFLIX anymore, it has evolved into a pop culture phenomenon. And it is one of the hottest licenses out there with McFarlane Toys nabbing the brand for a new series of highly detailed action figures. Chief Hopper comes with 12 points of articulation, stands 7-inches, comes with a stylized STRANGER THINGS display base and is showcased in 80's retro style packaging. This 2-pack blew me away at Toy Fair earlier this year and it really is an amazing set when you get to see it all set up properly the way DC Collectibles did. Based on the 1992 comic The Death of Superman, this 2-pack features a bloodied and beaten Superman versus heavy hitter Doomsday who goes on to kill the Man of Steel. Both figures come with multiple points of articulation and Superman is equipped with several face sculpts and an eye blast accessory. There is even a rocky base with Superman's cape set up as a flag for the two to fight to the death. Kevin comes armed with his BB gun and hot iron while Harry has a "torch burnt head" and Marv comes with his iron burned face and a crow bar. Batman: The Animated Series fans are rejoicing at this incredible new Batcave playset from DC COLLECTIBLES. Seeing the reveal of this set at Toy Fair back in February reminded me why I collect toys in the first place. This is a highly detailed and beautiful set for the Gothamite in your life and brings to life the Batcave from the groundbreaking animated series. This playlet includes the iconic Batcomputer which actually lights up with interchangeable screen graphics and you even get an Alfred BTAS figure included. I do love me a good mashup and combining TMNT with the original GHOSTBUSTERS was a stroke of genius from PLAYMATES TOYS. The set includes Michelangelo as Peter Venkman, Leonardo as Ray Stantz, Raphael as Winston Zeddemore and Donatello as Egon Spengler. Plus each figure comes with a slew of extras including proton packs, PKE meters and apparitions of every class. These are absolute must haves for anyone like me that ever thought that this was a mashup that we would never get to see. Can't wait to pick these up...if I can find them on the pegs! 

7) GAMESTOP EXCLUSIVE HASBRO MARVEL LEGENDS BACK IN BLACK DEADPOOL ($22.99)

GAMESTOP strikes again scoring another Exclusive MARVEL LEGENDS figure and this time it is the BACK IN BLACK DEADPOOL. Throw the word "Exclusive" next to DEADPOOL and the figure is sure to be an instant hit amongst Junkies. DEADPOOL getting ahold of Spider-Man's symbiote suit is a recipe for disaster and the result is a dope looking figure where the Merc with a Mouth actually looks to be enjoying being taken over by the alien form. This new AMAZON EXCLUSIVE STAR WARS BLACK SERIES figure is the First Order Stormtrooper Junkies have been waiting on. 4) HASBRO STAR WARS THE BLACK SERIES JAINA SOLO ($45)

Chosen by STAR WARS fans as the, well, "Fan Choice figure," Jaina Solo from the STAR WARS EXTENDED UNIVERSE is finally here in BLACK SERIES form! This is going to be the DARTH REVAN of this year's holiday season with Junkies going to war over who can get their mitts on Han & Leia's badass looking daughter. Not only can she rock a flight suit, she also comes with a killer lightsaber making her a formidable descendant of the Skywalker clan. Jaina is also a skilled mechanic, learning from her pop Han and his furry sidekick Chewbacca. She is also a hotshot "Maverick" style pilot in the Rogue Squadron and a student of none other than her uncle Luke Skywalker. 3) HASBRO MARVEL LEGENDS 12-INCH MOVIE BLACK PANTHER ($49.99)

Buzz on February 2018's BLACK PANTHER film from MARVEL STUDIOS is at a fever pitch and after seeing the INFINITY WAR trailer last week, it is clear that King T'Challa of Wakanda is going to be a big part of the MCU's future. The figure from HASBRO is the newest addition in their 12-inch line of MARVEL LEGENDS featuring 30+ points of articulation, character inspired extras and top notch tooling. The figure also includes an alternate unmasked head and an extra set of hands. 2) HASBRO MARVEL LEGENDS 12-INCH WOLVERINE ACTION FIGURE ($75)

Technically, this new 12-inch MARVEL LEGENDS WOLVERINE is not available yet but after doing a whole lot of digging, I found just two that were sold for between $75 and $100 on the secondary market. The buzz over this new addition to the 12-inch line MARVEL LEGENDS line has been building because come on, look at this figure! Not only do we get the highly detailed articulation that we have come to expect from the LEGENDS line but Logan also comes with interchangeable hands for both popped and unpopped claws in his classic yellow and blue suit; my personal favorite. The figure also boasts 2 battle damaged shoulder pad accessories as well as a masked battle damaged alternate head. 1) MCFARLANE TOYS STRANGER THINGS ELEVEN 5-INCH ACTION FIGURE ($35)

It is no surprise that McFarlane Toys' new iteration of STRANGER THINGS' Eleven made the top spot as NETFLIX and company have been riding the wave of popularity since Season 2 dropped on Halloween weekend. This new 7-inch scale figure stands about 5-inches and is sculpted from images of now world famous actress Millie Bobby Brown. The new figure comes in 80's retro style themed packaging, has a removable blonde wig, radio and of course, a waffle. Eleven has 12 points of articulation for dynamic posing and even has a stylized STRANGER THINGS branded display base. LEGO STAR WARS COMPLETE SAGA (PRICE VARIES)

This is a present that I have already downloaded on my sons iPad. For Christmas, Santa is going to unlock all the levels which I believe is less than 5 bucks all tolled. This is partially a bribery present because my son has been refusing to watch all the STAR WARS movies with me. However, after only 15 minutes of play time with the LEGO game, not only is he invested in the characters, but he has been begging to watch all the movies. This is a great and fast idea for the little one in your life because it offers endless hours of playtime and replayability as you progress through the game. It is also something that can be sent digitally in case you cannot get the physical copy yourself.

Now I will say this is a bit on the pricey side and, to be honest, you can probably buy a whole system for your child at this price point. Voted Game of the Year last year, Overwatch is still going strong with over 35 million players. This game is incredibly easy to like, and not just for the exciting, fast-paced gameplay. One avenue for these stories (they don’t really appear in the game) is the animated shorts created by Blizzard, but now there is a new one: the Overwatch Anthology. Originally published online for free, these comics are now printed into a beautiful hardcover book, and is a must-have for any fans of the game.

DARK SOULS: THE BREATH OF ANDOLUS

Coming out earlier this year, Dark Souls 3 consumed a lot of gamers’ time. With truly difficult bosses and, well, everything, this game is used as a comparison for every other difficult game out there. Dark Souls has a huge following of devoted fans and anyone of them would enjoy this comic. I say that with confidence because I have given this book as a gift before to a Dark Souls fan and he loved it.

POP! TEES: CUPHEAD - CUPHEAD DEVIL MR. DICE

Considered the “Dark Souls of Platformers,” Cuphead is one of the hardest games I have ever played, but it is also one of the most beautiful and fun. Rendered in a rubber hose style of animation, popular in the early Disney era, Cuphead is a work of art, and anyone who has put their blood, sweat, tears into this game (and there are a lot of tears) would love to show off that art on their shirt.

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II - INFERNO SQUAD (THE NOVEL) 

Though the game has been getting mixed reviews (and I am being kind), the Star Wars books have been excellent so far. I have put this book on my own Christmas list because, from what I have played of the Battlefront II campaign, I want to know as much as I can about these characters. In addition, this story takes place directly after the events of Rogue One, and as a Star Wars fan, I want to know the Empire’s reaction to that outside of what we know happens in a New Hope.

She loves toys, comics, and above all movies (she even plays W.O.W., but let’s not go there). TALES OF THE BATMAN: ALAN BRENNERT AND/ OR TALES OF THE BATMAN: LEN WEIN

First up, either one or both of these hardcover Batman collections would be a great gift. With the passing of Len Wein, early this year, I stumbled across his Batman collection. A fantastic way to celebrate the work of the man who brought to us so many great characters. The second Batman book is the collected work of Alan Brennert. Here you will find my personal favorite Batman Elseworld story, "Batman: Holy Terror". Trust me you’ll love it, as Bruce Wayne lives his normal life as a priest and patrols Gotham at night as Batman. Oh, and Gotham resides in an America that is still under the British Empire.

"The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi" arrived in stores on December 15th. Trust me, they will be at every bookstore. It is hard to believe that it was already 9 months ago when I first spoke with Grammy Award-winning comedy producer Brian Volk-Weiss about NETFLIX's new 8-part series THE TOYS THAT MADE US. However, Weiss is one seriously busy guy but I knew if the Junkieverse stayed diligent and patient, we would eventually hook up on the phone and get the inside scoop on the show that has all toy collectors buzzing. It was pure kismet that we were able to schedule something for the week of the big debut of the new show on NETFLIX that will be binge-ready by the time this interview goes up.

First off, if there ever was a qualified Junkie at the helm on a project like this, it most definitely is Brian. After 10 minutes of talking, it felt like that old opening SEINFELD bit (before they cut them in Season 8), where Jerry is on stage regaling what it is like to make a friend as a kid as opposed to adulthood. If you remember, Jerry goes on to say if there is someone standing on my front lawn, "they are my friend, that's my friend. You like cherry soda? I like cherry soda! We'll be best friends!" If talking to Brian was an 80's sitcom, at some point that classic dream sequence where the screen starts to get all shaky going to the past would have come up. It was just like talking to a regular AFJ member, except this one has a whole lot of clout in Hollywood. Enough so to produce what will hopefully be the start of the go-to streaming series for all Action Figure Junkies.

At first, I tried to use one of those transcription Apps that take your voice memos and transcribe them into written text. After $15 of wasted App purchases, as it turns out, I am so happy that I did it old school and spent 6 hours transcribing it all manually because it was a real stroll down memory lane. I am my worst critic but after finishing this piece, I was genuinely happy. In a very rare moment, I even said to my folks and business partner, "This interview and this show, THE TOYS THAT MADE US, is what makes all of the hard work and long hours of building AFJ worth it." I hope you guys enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed talking to Brian about his dream project.

JARRETT KRUSE: First, off Brian, thank you for taking the time to talk to AFJ. I know that you have a tremendous background in comedy but you originally came to Hollywood with a geekier sort of intent. Tell us about that before we dive into THE TOYS THAT MADE US.

BVW: I was inspired by STAR WARS, the way millions of other people were. I always say, "if it weren't for STAR WARS, I would be a lawyer or a doctor in Queens, NY like my whole family." I saw STAR WARS and I didn't know this word at the time, but basically from my point of view as a kid, I would now label it that I thought I was watching a documentary. I was so young when I saw it that I left the theater and said to my Mom, "I want to join the Rebellion! I want to fly an X-Wing!" And my Mom was like, "You know its a movie?" but I didn't get it.

And she bought me this book, which I still have, which was kind of like the kids book of the making of STAR WARS. I saw the X-Wing's and instead of being 80 feet wide, they were really just little models, and C-3PO with his head off showing Anthony Daniels and that was basically it from that moment on; I wanted to be in show business. So I came out here originally wanting to be a director but learned very quickly, about a year at the most, that what I had perceived as being a director was actually part of the director's job that I had done when I had made student films was actually producing. I really enjoyed just the producing aspect and did not enjoy the professional setting of what a director actually does. So I was like, "I'm gonna be a producer," and it will be 20 years in July.

JK: I have done lots of research on THE TOYS THAT MADE US since I first heard about the project back in March when we first touched base. You have worked extensively with NETFLIX over the years with major A-List comedy heavyweights but #TTTMU is a whole different beast. How did you sell the idea of a docu-series about toys to them?

BVW: You know one thing that I want to give you props for; you were literally the first person to reach out to us so I want to thank you for that. And second of all, also because you were the first person to reach out, I want to say that I appreciate your patience because as you know we weren't able to talk to you for a long time. So I just wanted to give you props and thank you for that.

I mean basically, you kind of hit the nail on the head, I have been producing stand-up comedy for NETFLIX for a long, long time. You know, about 5, 6 years and I know a lot of the people that work there. And to be honest, I really just kept bugging them. You know I tried to sell the show to other companies for years, at least 5 years, maybe more. I came really close a couple of times to selling the shows to other networks and didn't and finally what I call my "polite bugging" went on for years.

Junkies, 2018 is going to be a stellar year... for Disney. Not only are there 3 MCU movies coming out, there are also three X-Men movies arriving. Yes, that means six, Marvel movies all owned by Disney. Obviously, this was not planned and most likely will never, ever, happen again. The AFJ braintrust sat down and (heavily) debated the which 18 movies are likely to the best of the best for 2018. Now obviously, we are leaving a few titles out of list. Why? Quite frankly, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom looks like more of the same. Venom, with Tom Hardy, is a just a monumental cash grab by Sony Pictures. However, Sony's Miles Morales Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse looks like a step in the right direction. Yet, if you take that film and Venom into account, there are actually eight movies with Marvel characters in them this year. Without a doubt 2018 is going to be a wild ride, a ride that also includes the return of Disney's Incredibles. #AFJ4LIFE

THE BLACK PANTHER

Release Date: February 16th

Junkie Verdict: The trailer for Avengers: Infinity War looks to be heavily set in Wakanda (home to the Black Panther), making this a bigger must for us Junkies. As usual with any Marvel/ Disney movie, there will be more than enough toys to go around.

ANNIHILATION

Junkie Verdict: Director Alex Garland got our attention with Ex Machina (2014), and this just feels like a natural progression on similar sci-fi themes we have seen in the past. As for toys? Who knows that we will see.

TOMB RAIDER

Release Date: March 16th

Junkie Verdict: This is a much-disputed film here at Junkie HQ. Half of us want to see a reboot, the other half thinks it will be 90 minutes of her leaping out the danger. We shall see come March.

PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING

Junkie Verdict: The first one was a solid Kaiju vs Jaeger film, however with Guillermo del Toro not at the helm, we hope that Steven S. DeKnight can bring the thrills. NECA delivered toys for the original. I’m sure they will return with the new Jaegers.

Junkie Verdict: This property is ripe for anyone of the top brands that all the Junkies love. However, most of us already own the toys that will be featured in this film. Expect Funko renditions of the avatars of the lead actors.

A QUIET PLACE

Junkie Verdict: Not really something that is going to lend itself to a toy line. Well, it might as we have not seen the creatures yet. With that being said, this film knocked Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom off our top 18. Why? This looks awesome. JWFK looks like more of what we have seen before.

THE NEW MUTANTS

Release Date: April 13th

FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD

Junkie Verdict: There were not a lot of toys for the first one, outside of the Funko POPs we picked up. We are all in on this franchise regardless how many toys they make.

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE

Junkie Verdict: An animated Spider-Man and one that features Miles Morales, done. Take my money! Will the non-Miles Morales fans turn out is the real question. Don’t expect too many official Hasbro tie-ins but we’ll see plenty of comic book likeness on the shelves.

AQUAMAN

Junkie Verdict: The last chance for DC Comics and Warner Brothers? Perhaps stand-alone films are the way to go, for right now. The December release date may not help its box office if word of mouth is bad. We are still interested enough to see if there is still any hope left in the DCEU.

Although we lost Sir Roger Moore in 2017, that did not stop high-end toymaker DID from producing a brilliant one-sixth scale figure standing close to a foot tall. And check out that likeness! It is almost two years already since prolific sculptor and toy industry rock star Jean St. Jean invited me up to his New Jersey studio where I sat in awe for close 6 hours. I had forgotten to ask if JSJ had animals of any kind as I have a severe cat allergy and the same with about half of the dogs I encounter. Despite the studio being cleaner than Doctor Strange’s operating room, I knew something was in the air and my eyes started to shut like Apollo Creed’s in ROCKY II. DST MARVEL GALLERY NETFLIX PUNISHER SEASON 1 STATUE ($39.99) 

NETFLIX’s Season 1 of THE PUNISHER was a bonafide smash for the streaming monster service starring actor Jon Bernthal. I really dig DIAMOND SELECT’s still relatively new MARVEL GALLERY line that comes in at just $39.99 per piece. These display ready pieces come in beautiful packaging and measure in at 9-inches as a PVC diorama giving it a great 360-degree look. So the view is different from each angle with New Yorker Frank Castle crashing backward through a brick wall as he takes aim at multiple targets. It is really a clever and original looking line and not only do you get the digital likeness of Bernthal, you get a masterfully sculpted piece of figure architecture from industry veteran Rocco Tartamella. DST THE CW FLASH TV SERIES GALLERY STATUE ($39.99)

First off, I am a huge fan of The CW’s FLASH TV show and have been since the show premiered. Frankly, even if it were not a DC show, I think it is one of the best ensemble dramas currently on weekly TV. I was always a casual FLASH comic book reader when I had a weekly pull list but The CW show really got me very involved into the entire Scarlet Speedster canon because as a huge time travel buff, I had no idea how much the Speed Force had to do with altering timelines and such so suddenly, I was catching up on classic FLASH trade paperbacks to learn more about the character.

To say I was disappointed with Warner Bros. big screen interpretation of Barry Allen and Ezra Miller’s goofy portrayal of Central City’s Fastest Man Alive in JUSTICE LEAGUE is an understatement. I thought that the casting was off after seeing Miller in last year’s super serious FANTASTIC BEASTS & WHERE TO FIND THEM. Instead of giving Miller any depth as Barry Allen/The Flash, it seemed like WB tried to make a big screen version carbon copy of Grant Gustin’s accessible and affable Barry Allen. Long story short, I love the TV show and think it deserves a larger audience so anytime AFJ can promote a new item from the TV show, I make sure to put in some real time and effort. It is just a coincidence that this happens to be another Gallery Statue from our pals at DIAMOND SELECT on our pre-order list. ‪DIAMOND SELECT PACIFIC RIM 2 GYPSY AVENGER SELECT ACTION FIGURE ($22.99)

John Boyega is red hot right now coming off of THE LAST JEDI and he will start off 2018 with the sequel PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING. While the figures from NECA seemed to have done pretty well for the first movie, I was surprised to hear that DIAMOND SELECT picked up the license for the action figures for the sequel. However, the more I thought about it, DST’s oversized packaging may just be the perfect fit for these giant 250 foot tall Jaeger’s & Kaiju’s. The lead Jaeger from the upcoming sequel known as the GYPSY AVENGER joins the DST line known as “Robot Spirits” standing close to 7-inches tall and highly articulated for dynamic posing. To top it off, the new figures come with an array of new weapons and accessories including optional forearms, hands, a chain sword and a gravity sling. I don’t know what that is but it sounds cool!

Although a solid $45 extra than a normal ONE:12 COLLECTIVE figure from MEZCO, this is like the Mercedes SL of Mez’s flagship line. Since Banner’s size is so outlandish in the third THOR film, I feel like MEZCO made the right call in scaling their GLADIATOR HULK way up so that the display friendly line of figures will all fall in line with Bruce Banner’s has overactive gamma rays. However, at our AFJ EAST year-end summit last week, we quickly realized that we were going to have to make several TOP 10 LISTS—one for the under $100 crowd with lots of honorable mentions, one TOP 10 LIST for the crowd looking to spend upwards of $150 to $300+ per figure (seen here) and of course 2017’s TOY COMPANY OF THE YEAR. 10. JAKKS PACIFIC 2017 SDCC EXCLUSIVE DARTH VADER ($50.00)

I promised myself that while covering San Diego Comic-Con 2017, I would make no random purchases for myself no matter how good the deal was. By Sunday, the last day of the Con, the situation had grown  even worst as not only did JAKKS PACIFIC still have this 20" BIG FIG Darth Vader based on the 40th Anniversary of the 1977 STAR WARS POSTER in stock, based on the retro, deco vibe of the original Brothers Hildebrandt poster from 40 years older. I honestly was so busy that weekend, I had just totally forgotten to keep an eye out for any under the radar 40th Anniversary 1977-2017 Episode IV march. Man did this BIG FIG scratch my itch for a scant $50 giving Vader the Kenner look of the time period featuring a swinging lightsaber when squeezing his legs together (very 80's SUPER POWERS) and also activating the lights and sound effects. JAKKS' BIG FIGS line has never really interested me that much but they really went all out to match the classic Brothers Hildrebrand for the big 40th Anniversary theatrical release. Definitely one of my favorite "under the radar picks" of 2017! -JK

9. GHOSTBUSTERS SELECT SERIES 5 ACTION FIGURE SET ($74.99)

This Diamond Select Toys is sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios. Which means the details, as you can see, are amazing. We love it because you can really add to your Ghostbusters collection as the Library Ghost (aka The Grey Lady, Gray Lady, Librarian Ghost, or in her previous life she was known as Eleanor Twitty), the Taxi Driver Zombie, and a Terror Dog! These 7-inch figures support up to 16 points of articulation and have awesome character-specific accessories (The Library Ghost comes books, the Taxi Driver a steering wheel, and the Terror Dog has interchangeable horns so it could be Zuul or Vinz Clortho). This is a great set and must have for the Ghostbuster Junkie! - RT

8. STAR WARS THE BLACK SERIES CAPTAIN REX 6-INCH FIGURE ($19.99)

This figure that is long overdue. When we started to see Black Series figures of Star Wars Rebels characters, I figured that actual characters, outside of basic Clone Troopers, would get the green light from Hasbro. Certainly, Captain Rex got the royal HasCon treatment back in Septemeber (seen here) but for those that couldn't make it, Hasbro has a regular version hitting stands now! What I love about this figure is that his helmet comes off revealing the character's likeness as Temuera Morrison who played Jango Fett and all the Clones! - RT

7. THOR: RAGNAROK MARVEL LEGENDS HELA 6-INCH FIGURE ($19.99)

When the Ragnarok BAF figure set was released, Hela was severely lacking at the brick and mortar stores. The AFJ Facebook Page, a great source for keeping up-to-date, BTW) started to report more and more sightings of her, but now she is all but gone. Why is she is worthy of this list? The details on the head and face for one. The second reason is that we may finally have a decent MCU female villain! The final reason, which goes with the first, it actually looks like Cate Blanchett! Well done Hasbro! -RT

6. NECA ROCKY 40TH ANNIVERSARY SCALE ACTION FIGURE SERIES 2 APOLLO CREED (UNCLE SAM HAT AND COAT) 7" ($49.99)

Our fearless leader loved the Rocky saga, and who can blame him. The films are nothing but inspiring and to see NECA put so much craft into this Apollo Creed figure shows that they love Rocky as well. Apollo decked out in his Rocky IV garb, made several of AFJ's Hot Lists and pre-orders in 2017. Fitting now that Jarrett placed him on our Top 10 for 2017. - RT

5. NECA 1:4 SCALE 25TH ANNIVERSARY MICHELLE PFEIFFER CATWOMAN ($100)

Introducing the second action figure from Batman Returns! NECA dropped another incarnation of the Merc with the Mouth only this time he was quarter-scale and in his black and gray costume (a la X-Force)! You cannot possibly go wrong with this 18-inch tall figure and over 30 points of articulation to place him into any pose. Oh and to top it all off he comes with a plethora of accessories including katanas, sai, machine guns, pistol and knife accessories, all with working holsters and sheaths, plus interchangeable hands. - RT

It is no surprise that McFarlane Toys' new iteration of STRANGER THINGS' Eleven made the top spot as NETFLIX and company have been riding the wave of popularity since Season 2 dropped on Halloween weekend. This new 7-inch scale figure stands about 5-inches and is sculpted from images of now world-famous actress Millie Bobby Brown. The new figure comes in 80's retro style themed packaging, has a removable blonde wig, radio and of course, a waffle. Eleven has 12 points of articulation for dynamic posing and even has a stylized STRANGER THINGS branded display base. Definitely going to be buying two of these, one MOC for my personal Well of Souls (that's what I call my collection in storage) and one for a full-on Hawkins, in STRANGER THINGS display as each new figure is released. - JK

This 2-pack blew me away at Toy Fair earlier this year and it really is an amazing set when you get to see it all set up properly the way DC Collectibles did. Based on the 1992 comic The Death of Superman, this 2-pack features a bloodied and beaten Superman versus heavy hitter Doomsday who goes on to kill the Man of Steel. Both figures come with multiple points of articulation and Superman is equipped with several face sculpts and an eye blast accessory. There is even a rocky base with Superman's cape set up as a flag for the two to fight to the death. If set up properly, this is a brilliant looking set at a solid price point of just $64.99. - JK

MARVEL LEGENDS 12-INCH HULK ACTION FIGURE ($79.99)

This NETFLIX DAREDEVIL figure made my BEST OF TOY FAIR 2017 article and I am so happy that it has finally arrived. After the Ben Affleck debacle that was the 2003 film DAREDEVIL, I honestly thought that one of my Top 5 favorite MARVEL characters of all time in comic books was never going to have the live-action figure that it deserved. I did not foresee another studio taking on another live-action interpretation of either TV or film. I am so happy that I was wrong because NETFLIX's DAREDEVIL is not just one of the best superhero shows on TV, it is one of the best shows on TV period. Now, DIAMOND SELECT brings us this awesome new figure of the Daredevil of Hell's Kitchen to life and DST's quality continues to get better with each successive figure. It seems that with each new MARVEL SELECT figure release, they continually get better and better constantly improving their 3D likenesses, paint apps & diorama style backdrop pieces. This DD bears a stunning resemblance to actor Charlie Cox, comes with 16 pints of articulation and a pair of his signature billy clubs. As if that were not enough, Junkies are treated to the aforementioned sculpted diorama piece that depicts the elevator scene from Season 1 on NETFLIX. Throw in the DST's signature "spine packaging" for easy reference and I am definitely going to buy two of these; one to save and one to display. It is just that nice of a figure and for newer Junkies just getting into collecting, buying DST figures will quickly add to their collections for one of the best pricing you are going to find on "higher end" MARVEL figures that will not break the bank. - JK

When it came to the discussion of "TOY COMPANY OF THE YEAR" at the East Coast Summit of MJ Ortiz (The Key Master Junkie), Robert Trate (The Jedi Junkie), Evan Liss (The Noob), and Jarrett (The Head Junkie in Charge), we came to only one conclusion, Mezco Toyz. No other toy company had us checking out their Facebook and Twitter on a daily basis for updates on their One:12 Collective releases. Mezco Toyz has established itself as truly a company for the collector and their releases reflect that. We've been sharing what Mezco has to offer on a weekly basis and their displays at every Con always warrant multiple pictures.

For me, personally, I was blown away by their Thor: Ragnarok releases. I am not the biggest Thor fan, but their rendition of Thor and the Hulk made me want their One: 12s more than anything else I had seen in a long time.

MEZCO ONE:12 COLLECTIVE JUSTICE LEAGUE TACTICAL SUIT BATMAN

MEZCO had another banner year in 2017, quietly leading an army of Junkies to set their alarm clocks once or twice a month to have a shot to purchase one of their coveted pre-orders. For any costume that I did not like on the silver screen, MEZCO managed to make their ONE:12 interpretation irresistible to Junkies. I was adamant that the Tactical Suit Batman in JUSTICE LEAGUE looked too similar to WATCHMEN’s “The Nite Owl,” then I saw this figure and as if under a trance, placed my order with zero hesitation. Press Release: Direct from the eagerly anticipated and groundbreaking feature film, Mezco welcomes Black Panther into the One:12 Collective. Intricately designed with a cloth outfit recreating that of King T’Challa’s Vibranium suit, authentically detailed accessories replicating those seen in the movie, and the likeness of actor Chadwick Boseman.

The One:12 Collective Black Panther figure boasts two comprehensively detailed head portraits: one masked and one unmasked, featuring the likeness of actor Chadwick Boseman.  Special attention was paid when designing King T’Challa’s suit made from Vibranium, a rare metal that is lightweight, sleek, and bulletproof. In addition, Black Panther comes equipped with a meticulously crafted shield and spear, replicating similar weapons seen in the film.

Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to Wakanda. When two enemies conspire to bring down the kingdom, King T’Challa must team up as the Black Panther, with Wakanda’s special forces - the Dora Milaje, to prevent a world war.
